Hi everyone, we're hoping you might be able to help one of our members - she's having trouble getting her almost one year old from breast to cows milk. Her thread is here if you have any advice. Thank you.

K85m I hope the rest of your holiday was good and I don't blame you for rolling your eyes on the plane!

oliver is now on cows milk during the day (and lots of water) and then bedtime bottle is still formula as I am not happy his food intake is good enough to not have the vitamins in the formula just yet.  He is a bit of a picky eater but we are making progress and he is having 3 melas a day (2 of which are usually an ok size and one a bit small), plus snacks.

the problem is his poo has become so hard it's like he is psssing 3 pebbles a day and he is in a lot of pain with them. Yesterday it cut him!

HV was useless (just made me feel a bad mum as I work and Oliver is at home with Dad in the day, I only asked what I could give him to help with constapation!) and we have a doctors appointment on Thursday, but thought I'd ask if any of you have had this?  I've read the transition to cows milk can have this effect for a couple of weeks but surely it shouldn't be this bad?!

LOL Rustic. Just the same here. I had photos done for Phoe's birthday too and she didn't smile at all for the first 40 minutes we were there imageimage

We did get some lovely ones in the last 10-20 minutes though thankfully!

I only did BLWing with Phoe so she's fed herself proper food from the start and only has food like root veg (sweet potato, parsnip & carrot) loosely mashed so there's always lumps lol.

Maybe try mashed potato starting off with it smooth and gradually make it lumpier?

Not sure about the constipation either, we don't drink cows milk as there is evidence that it's not good for humans. Plus from an ethical pov it's not something I am comfortable with, I haven't bought cows milk in about 6yrs image.

But, bananas can cause constipation if you eat a lot of them, or for babies when their digestive systems are still getting used to it.
Have you tried prunes/pureed plums? See if that helps at all?

We avoid bananas now as I read about they can cause constipation and give him prunes in something most days. I think he is still having too much milk in total and DH thinks it's because of the solid food. So that's not helpful as I'm trying to get him eating on the evening and weekends and DH is giving him milk in the day.  I did try baked beans and mash the other day with some success so will try more of that.  He will finger feed snacks etc.

love that photo of Phoenix. So sweet!

What a lovely photo! Sorry to hear about the constipation ladies. I always five Nellie some orange barley and she goes if she needs to if that helps any. She has 2 formula bottles only cuz she won't drink cows milk I've tried a few times. Has a bottle in morning and one for bed and eats anything in the day. On holiday she's been eating toast on a morning and then anything sausage beans chips spag bol mash hot dog sausages she loves fish and eats lots of peas (which was brill as she eats them one by one and kept her occupied ha) same with sweetcorn and carrots and loves peppers and soup with croutons and melon. shes had her back teeth for a while now so been on proper food which I was glad about as we could all go out to eat on holiday and she had some of wotever I had or shared something off her brother ha. I do try and keep it as healthy as possible although it sounds rubbish wot I've put but I always make sure she eats her fruit and veg.

Oh thanks K85 I'll try some orange barley.  She sounds such a great eater and looks so grown up in those photos.

    Thank you, Rustic :)
Oh Phoenix loves mash and beans lol. My 10yr old still says mash and beans is her fave meal haha, she would live off it if she could I am sure.

Phoenix is quite a good eater too, she doesn't eat a huge amount but will pretty much eat anything (as long as it's not *too* spicy). I think it helps that I share my food with her. And if I don't she pesters me til I do image lol.

We went to Leeds on sunday and I went to Bar Burrito so she shared my burrito lol.

And she's currently just demolished about 80g of Blueberries haha

    Lovely holiday photos K85m

How is ttc going? Hope it's not too stress for yo!!

where do you buy her clothes? Always on the hunt for little outfits that are different colours aa all our next stuff etc is all the same!!

  • Options

This outfit she's wearing is actually next lol. I got the 3 pack of tops and leggings and mix and match them 😍❤

Thanks girls I'm so happy with them I've seen the rest now and they're beautiful even if she didn't smile in any of them 😂

I'm just gonna not get stressed about it .. I need to speak to doctor about short luteal phase though as mine is only 8 or 9 days long which apparently isn't sufficient enough for the implantation of a baby. It's most likely because I'm still breastfeeding esmae multiple times throughout the night x

Oh, I've not seen anything like the little red outfit on our next, will have to have a look online!!

yes, talk to the docs and see what they say, at least you'll have mentioned it to them and will have he ball rolling if they decide it's Not sufficient! I hope your docs are better than mine, they were rubbish when I was ttc and patronising too... just what you need when struggling and need help!!!

Mumma I have a short LP due to a progesterone deficiency. Dr diagnosed it via a blood test but was told I'd have to go on a 6 month Waiting list to see a fertility specialist to get progesterone treatment.  I ended up buying some pregenolene cream off amazon (thinking I may as well try something while waiting 6 months) and was pregnant the first cycle (after over a year of ttc)!  No idea how that would work with bf though.

Lovely pic Rustic! I love how it's upside down ha have to let them explore don't you.

Is anyone else's toddler an outdoor child? My son was never fussed and even now if spongebob is on he will sit on setee rather than play! But Nellie is up the patio doors as soon as she's up and multiple time in the day banging to get outside! I must admit she will please herself once she's out there walking about and messing and I even put her on the trampoline and zip and clip it shut and sit down for 5 ha but she hates it indoors gets so bored and I struggle to occupy her.....unless I'm in the kitchen and she's in the cupboards ha

Oliver hasn't really discovered the garden yet.  He's not fully walking yet and it's not crawl suitable. He loves when we picnic in the park exploring but he is quite happy indoors climbing up and over everything he can find!

Rustic do you have older children? Sorry to ask my memory isn't the best.  To be honest I'd rather she was inside as I have steps outside but she's quite a confident walker and I never leave her on her own or out of sight but when my son goes out she cries to get out with him. She does think she can do everything he does though and has a temper tantrum when she can't. Dunno if it's cuz she's a girl but she thinks she's older than wot she is! Keep Oliver crawling ha x
