    Hello all,

Ahh in starting to struggle with feeding :( I'm just wondering whether he is ready to start on food?! He is 24 weeks old now. Its si hard as he is my first I don't have anything to go by.

He is so strong, even sitting in his bouncy chair he is trying to arch his back to get out of it :/ I just can't hold him all the time, my back is killing me. What do you do with your babies when you aren't holding them and they're not on their mat etc.? Xx

@SmithL35 in what way are you struggling? If you feel he’s ready then go for it, just a few bits at a time. You know your baby. I’m contemplating stopping breast feeding. It’s the paranoia he’s not getting enough from me as he’s still quite dinky even with 3 meals & a bottle.

William is either on me, in this gym, highchair or sometimes I plonk him in the pushchair and he follows me around the house 🤣

How old was William when you started on food? Did you start one meal a day? I'm so nervous, I don't feel like I will know what to make. How do you puree veg?!

I have had a chat with my husband about it and I think my worry is the warning of him choking because of his aorta, and yet the last time we sae the consultant he was really positive that Oscar will be absolutely fine! So I don't know why I am so nervous about it.

Oh bless you, do you feel like he is not getting enough milk? Are you expressing? X

He was probably about 4 and a half months old, we started with baby rice of a morning and I used to squash berries & bananas in it. Veg I cook then put in a blender with a bit of the cooking water, I found that made him a bit constipated though so cut back & generally he has finger foods for lunch & tea instead. They get really good at chewing with gums 🤣.

Little Oscar seems to have surpassed all expectations, I’m sure he’ll be great at this one too. If you feed him stuff that is obviously too small to get stuck then if he does choke you know it’s definitely not getting stuck, it’s just a gag from the new textures he’s learning. Hopefully it’ll help you get more confident with feeding.

He’s growing out of clothes so is obviously growing, I’m not really sure why I’m so paranoid 🙈. He’s definitely behind where my daughter was at this age, weight, rolling about etc... but then again they say boys are lazy. I think we all just want to do our best for them which is why we worry so much!

Oh I definitely agree...we want to do the best for them so sometimes it can feel like you're not doing enough or the right thing. Especially when the health visitor told me he should be rolling now 😳 makes you feel like you're doing something wrong. But then the other day he rolled! And I wanted to phone he and tell her 🤣

Thanks for the advice on feeding. I think it will be good to just get started soon, it's starting to make me anxious but I think I also an sad to accept that he is growing so fast and now my milk just isn't enough.

Aww what a handsome boy William is! I can imagine it I'd hard not to compare to siblings 😣 x

Morning ladies hope you are all well?? Denver has been on his milk free diet for well over a week now and he’s doing good! Still not sleeping through the night tho!
I started my induction at university yesterday, was brill apart from being full of cold and feeling horrendous! Came home to a moody baby who had missed his mummy and ended up in bed at 6:30 with the migraine from hell!!
On a good note I feel much better this morning but I am full of dread at the thought of leaving Denver all day again! I have been pumping so he’s still having mummy milk but he was so unhappy with me yesterday ☹️
I start work on the wards next week so really need to get him used to me not always bein here! I don’t know how women go back to work so soon after birth this is a killer.
I never did it with my others, I have always been here so I feel he is missing out! I’m sure he will be fine!? Bloody crazy mummy brain xx

@Wellcome1 oh bless you, but think about what he’s gaining. A bit of independence, if he’s at nursery then he’s learning to socialise, if he’s at home he’s getting more daddy time. And soon enough you’ll come home to huge smiles because he’s missed you ❤️

    Hello all,

Has anyone had mastitis? One of my boobs is really hurting today, and it is after it being so full at 3.30am this morning when Oscar woke for a feed. I've fed him twice this morning and also expressed which I haven't done for about 2 months! But it is still a stabbing pain :( it doesn't feel full now but really hurting......does it sound like mastitis?? X

@SmithL35 I swear we’re the same person sometimes 🤣. Is it worse not long after feeding & tends to stick around until you either feed again or have a painkiller? No idea what it is but mine lasted about 3 weeks. Keep an eye out for a temperature which could be an infection

Ahh I'm copying you!!! Haha. Horrible isn't it :( yes it is like a stabbing pain all the time :( I've tried feeding him but he keeps pulling away :( did you express through it? Did you get an infection? X
  • Options
@SmithL35 i had ibuprofen to get through the discomfort and kept feeding as normal. No infection but my boob was warm. It all just fades away after a few weeks. If I’m honest, apart from a good feed in the morning and a few half hearted attempts in the day, he’s now on bottles and a bit of water at meal times. I’m not sure if it is because he’s weaning and eating loads but he’s not that interested in boob feeding much but will take a bottle 🤷‍♀️. The discomfort subsided the less interested he became. Hopefully it’ll pass for you soon.

Ah ok, that's good to know. When you say a bottle is that with your milk that you've expressed or formula? Thanks so much for your help!! X
  • Options
@SmithL35 its formula. I never really thought about expressing 🙈. He’s was on a bottle of formula before bed anyway as he used to still be hungry after me feeding him. I tend to feed him breast first then top up with bottle now. At the moment it’s full bf at about 6am, 7.30am breakfast, 9am nap, 10.30am bf/bottle, 12 lunch, 12.30 nap, 2 bf/bottle, 3.30 nap, 4.30 bf/bottle, 5.30 tea, 7 bf/bottle then bed.

That sounds like a very good routine. I have just started morning naps in his big boy cot thanks to the weather! I used to take him for a walk at 8.30/9am as he would fall asleep then but he slept for 2 hours in his cot the other morning. I couldn't believe it!
I have fed him this evening and put him to bed, my boob still feels sore and I could feel a lump as I tried to massage it where it is hurting whilst he was feeding. I'm really nervous that it is going to really hurt tonight. Maybe I should try to express now to get any more out? X

@Wellcome1 hi Hun, how’s Denver getting on with the new diet?

@SmithL35 so happy to hear little mans heart is doing well. How is the boob feeling?
  • Options
    @VRob123 sorry I've only just seen this, I hadn't got a notification :/
Thankfully the boob pain I had at the weekend eased off, I just carried on feeding as normal and only expressed once. My nipples are so sore now but I guess that's with his tooth coming through?!

I'm having real sleeping problems :( I am finding that I will feed him and then just be wide awake waiting for him to wake up again :/ I feel like I am just exhausted all the time. Is this just how it is with a baby? I feel like if I could go back to sleep when he does then I would feel better but I just can't 😓xx

Hi Ladies, Sorry I’ve been a bit quiet. I’m not pregnant anymore and I’ve just been digesting it all, it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster of emotions. I hope you’re all okay. @SmithL35 hows your mastitis? I had that and it was horrendous, it took about three weeks to feel normal again. X
  • Options
Oh @XOXO1 I am so sorry to hear that :( I wish I could give you a hug! So hope that you are doing ok xx

Thankfully it never ended up as mastitis, or if it did it didn't last long. It's more my nipples that have been so sore for the last two weeks or so. But Oscar now has 2 teeth through and a third coming, bless him 😣 so sleep has just been a bit non existent. My husband had Ofsted at school (virtually) his week so bless him he has been wound up too.

Oscar is now rolling over onto his tummy but is not yet rolling back. During his day naps he has been sleeping on his tummy. Is this ok??

On a positive note....we saw the heart consultant again and he was happy again 😊 he is happy to wait 4 months to see us again!!!! So in the mean time I am trying Oscar with some veg purees I have made, although he doesn't seem interested at all!!!! Xx
